Vincent Price Tribute Festival 08-17-10 8:28am, Absinthe
general.gifAccording to STLtoday St. Louis, Missouri will be holding a week long tribute to their hometown horror-movie icon, Vincent Price next May.

They have named the festival 'Vincentennial' which will also coincide with what would have been Vincent's 100th birthday. The event is to be organized by Cinema St. Louis who present the St. Louis International Film Festival.

Statement from STLtoday:
"Price was raised on a house on Forsythe Boulevard near Washington University, which is expected to host some of the screenings and panel discussions. Several of Price's relatives, biographers and celebrity associates have been invited."

Vincent Price the most charming man (in my opinion) in the horror genre appeared in such classics as House on Haunted Hill (1959), The Pit And The Pendulum (1961), The House of Wax (1953) and The Raven (1963) one of his last film's was Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands (1990).

Vincent Price passed away on October 25, 1993. For more information head on over to the Cinema St. Louis website.

Sid Haig Lends Voice to CHADAM Web TV Series 08-11-10 10:57am, Absinthe
general.gifThe much anticipated animated web TV series "Chadam" is now available! Brought to you by Warner Brothers and HD Films and written by Alex Pardee ("Bunnywith"), Chadam lives as the chosen one in the metropolitan island of Vulture City. His power of imagination is strong enough to physically change his world and possibly save it from evil. The series will find Chadam in a place of refuge where he and others have retreated to plan their attack against a serial killer known as Viceroy. "Chadam" is created using Unreal Engine 3, the technology that was also used in the ground-breaking video games Gears of War and BioShock.

Sid lends his voice to Simkin, a mutated figure made so by the evil Viceroy's attempt to remove his imagination gland. Simkin was, however, able to escape and meet Chadam, who would may just be the one person who could defeat Viceroy and rid the planet of him for good. Simkin becomes Chadam's mentor, in that he shows Chadam he has the strength to defeat Viceroy.

Haig notes, "Voicing Simkin was an exercise in trying to establish the power of a character with my voice only, as opposed to using facial expressions and body language as I do in live-action. Even though I didn't get to work with any of the other actors in person, I had a great time with Alex and the HD Films staff. It was a thoroughly wonderful experience and I would do it all again in a second."

Starring John Lanz in the title role, with support from Sid, Jeffrey Combs as Viceroy, Katey Segal, Carl Weathers and more, "Chadam" is sure to expand your mind and widen your senses.

"Chadam" runs in ten episodes, which are up now on the Warner Brothers website. Follow this link to watch http://www.thewb.com/shows/chadam. As of now, the show is only viewable by those in the United States and no DVD plans are in place, but if you love what you see (or just want to see it!) please let Warner Brothers know by contacting them on their site and telling them you want your "Chadam"! This labour of love has been a long time coming and we hope you enjoy the results.

HORRORFEST Film Festival 08-11-10 10:49am, Absinthe
general.gifThe 6th annual
South African HORRORFEST Film Festival

28 November - 5 November 2010
@ The Labia Theatre, Orange Street, Cape Town, ZA

www.HORRORFEST.info

Since its inception in 2005 the South African HORRORFEST Film Festival has been the Halloween event in Africa.

The 6th installment of this exciting week of horrors will include a range of new movies, classics, fan favourites, sneak previews and premiers from around the world, as well as several chapters of short films, Halloween dress-up prizes, and killer audience give-aways before each movie. In addition there will again be a big Horror DVD collection (of several dozen movies) up for grabs for one lucky viewer.

Then of course there is the spectacular live movie soundtrack performance to the screening of a classic silent horror movie by THE MAKABRA ENSEMBLE (created by members of TERMINATRYX, collaborating with members of LARK and violin maestro Matthijs Van Dijk).
While this will be the 5th movie enhanced with a new, eclectic soundtrack, early-August 2010 THE MAKABRA ENSEMBLE invaded S.A.'s biggest music festival for the 2nd year in a row with a live movie soundtrack performance (MACISTE IN HELL - Maciste all' Inferno).
http://www.TERMINATRYX.com/makabra.htm

The final festival line-up will be released soon.
The new literary leg added in 2009 with the Lounge Of Horror fiction readings has been expanded in 2010 to include Bloody Parchment's short story competition: http://www.shadowrealminc.com/bloodyparchment/index.htm

Closing date for short film-, feature film-, and short story entries is late August! (extension by request - see website for full info http://www.HORRORFEST.info)

Another added feature comes in the shape of a dark art & photography exhibition which is in the works.

With the S.A. HORRORFEST nurturing South African moviemaking (and encouraging its own fresh identity) in tandem with local short film prize sponsors VISUAL IMPACT and HD HUB, this is now further transforming to include fiction writers, artists and photographers.

The limited edition 2009 HorrorFest / Provoyeur Wine range was very well received and something similar will be created for 2010.

While last year's special guest (American Werewolf In London's John Landis) couldn't make it, we are looking into bringing a prominent figure in Horror movies to the event. Fingers crossed.

THE TRAITEUR’S RING by Jeffrey Wilson 07-12-10 9:57pm, Absinthe
wib.gifNavy Seal, Ben Morvant, found a home in the Teams far from the nightmares of his childhood. Ben was raised in the Louisiana Bayou by his Grandmother, a Traiteur, or spiritual healer, and is no stranger to the supernatural. But nothing prepared him for a chance encounter with the spiritual healer and village elder his Team meets in the jungles of Africa while hunting down Al Qaeda. Ben witnesses the old man’s incredible power first hand, just moments before he sees him killed by a terrorist's bullet. With his last breath the old man passes to Ben the strange ring he wears, and with it powers that Ben finds hard to believe and even harder to control. So begins a journey that takes Ben from Africa to Virginia where he lives with his true love, Christy; back to the Louisiana Bayou in search of answers from his haunted past; and eventually back to Africa. There he will need all the help the ghosts he discovers can give if he is to use his new powers to stop an Evil far greater than just the band of terrorists his SEAL Team hunts.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: REANIMATED 07-01-10 10:00pm, Absinthe
general.gif"Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated" is a collaborative artistic mash-up of George Romero's cult classic. Nearly 150 International artists and animators chose their favorite scenes and re-envisioned them through their own artwork, with no restrictions on style, media or process - resulting in an eclectic 'art show' interpretation of the seminal 1968 film, all placed over the original's audio.

With work ranging from oil paintings to comic illustrations to sock puppets to CGI and stop-motion, "NOTLD:R" not only pays the respect due to this most important work in horror history, but encourages viewers to experience the film in a brand new light that bursts with the humor and horror of a new generation of artists.

Wild Eye Releasing and MVD Visual are releasing "Night Of The Living Dead: Reanimated for North American distribution on July 27. KING KONG 3-D at Universal Studios Hollywood 07-01-10 9:51pm, Absinthe
general.gif“King Kong 360 3-D” Created by Peter Jackson,

The World’s Largest Most Intense 3-D Experience,

Opens At Universal Studios Hollywood, The Entertainment Capital of L.A.SM

With 3D Press Briefing by Peter Jackson and Star-Studded Premiere

Universal City, CA -- “King Kong 360 3-D” created by Peter Jackson, the world's largest most intense 3D experience, made its debut today on the famed Universal Studios HollywoodSM Studio Tour, combining a ground-breaking use of Surround Digital 3D film and thrilling visceral effects to create a next-generation theme park experience.

The world premiere of the attraction featured a star-studded guest list and an innovative “3D press briefing” by the attraction’s creator, Peter Jackson. “King Kong 360 3-D” is the first theme park attraction to be directed by the three-time Oscar®-winning storyteller and filmmaker.

In the new attraction, guests aboard Studio Tour trams are given special 3-D glasses as they enter an enormous soundstage larger than a football field. Once inside, the trams are enveloped within enormous screens, their size equaling an area equivalent to 16 conventional movie screens and rest atop steel platens that provide a powerful motion base. Via the magic of Surround Digital 3D projection, guests are transported deep into a tangled jungle location. There, they survive a close encounter with a swarm of hungry raptors, only to be confronted by the terrifying presence of 35' tall dinosaurs. Suddenly, the 25' tall Kong gorilla appears. The trams roll and shudder as the guests find themselves caught in the middle of a titanic struggle between the great ape and carnivorous reptiles.

The enormous scale and the cutting edge technology employed by the designers elevate the powerful, iconic storyline to a new level. The vivid realism of the 3D immersion and the synchronized motion of the tram combine to produce a sense of immersion without precedent in a theme park attraction.

Peter Jackson, director of the Oscar®-winning 2005 Universal Pictures film upon which the attraction is based, said: “As a filmmaker, you’re hoping to have the audience step inside your movie and become part of the experience…to create the illusion of reality in a way that is much more tactile and profound than can be done in the cinema environment of a normal theatre. The new `King Kong 360 3D’ at Universal Studios Hollywood provided us with a unique opportunity to really push film and theme park technology to create that illusion. Our intention was to create a spectacular and immersive 3D experience and we’re confident that we’ve achieved that. King Kong 360 3D is the largest most intense 3D experience on the planet.”

Larry Kurzweil, President, Universal Studios Hollywood, said: “After a two-year absence, King Kong has returned with a vengeance never before seen. Guests from around the world will feel as if they are completely immersed in Peter Jackson’s 3D storytelling. King Kong 360-3D is the fight of the century and a highly repeatable breakthrough thrill ride, taking theme park and movie making experiences to an entirely new level.”

King Kong, known as “the eighth wonder of the world,” has been called “the experience for which movies were invented.” Since first appearing on the screen in the 1933 original classic, “King Kong” has been re-made twice, each time on a tremendous scale, earning a total of seven Oscar® and three Golden Globe® nominations. Most recently, Peter Jackson’s 2005 version took classic elements of the original “King Kong” story and adrenalized them with up-to-the-minute effects magic and the alchemic talents of a superlative group of filmmakers, cast and crew. Released to critical acclaim in late 2005, “King Kong” was a worldwide hit.

The arrival of the new “King Kong 360 3-D” experience coincides with major enhancements to the iconic Studio Tour. The most extensive backlot construction ever in the history of Universal Studios, which includes re-creations of legendary Hollywood sets and the introduction of brand-new shooting locations, was recently completed and the renowned studio will soon buzz with star-studded film and television production as never before

Universal Studios Hollywood is a unit of Universal Parks & Resorts, a division of NBC Universal, one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience.
