DEMONS AND OTHER INCONVENIENCES by Dan Dillard 06-18-10 9:31pm, Absinthe
wib.gif Dan Dillard brings you his latest collection of stories, a ‘series- of- scaries’ for so-called adults. Eighteen shorts in all, each one deals with a different sort of demon. If you like horror, there is something there for you. No Hollywood endings, and even the usual suspects, be they vampires or zombies have a totally new slant.

In “Unlucky in Death”, David goes to therapy because he has been bitten by a vampire and is having issues dealing with it. He misses bacon and was a morning person. This dark comedy finds him confronting the one who turned him for some rather unorthodox advice.

“The Demon of Walker’s Woods” takes you back to childhood when your neighborhood was the whole world, the friends were the best you’d ever hope for and the house on the corner caged an old woman who represented unspeakable evil. The children of the neighborhood plot against her, the parents loathe her, but what she is may be more terrifying than any of their wildest imaginations. This story has been compared to “It” and “Too Kill a Mockingbird” and will make you check under your bed at night.

“Pig Man” is an apparition that a little girl sees when her father leaves on business travel. He stands by the window at the bottom of the stairs and watches the moon. What he is waiting for is a mystery, but when the sign comes, he has the worst of intentions.

There are thirteen other stories that showcase aliens, murderous mothers and even a possessed family dog.

Dan is an indie author with a diverse background. He’s worked regular jobs, served in the US Military and is married with two children. He is also a musician and artist that has a passion for telling a story and he writes with the delicacy of a sledgehammer. There are two more books to be published later this year: another horror collection entitled “What Tangled Webs” and the paranormal novella, “The Unauthorized Autobiography of Ethan Jacobs.”

BOLEYN-TUDOR VAMPIRE Tweaking History 06-12-10 9:19pm, Absinthe
wib.gif
"BOLEYN-Tudor Vampire" is a dark paranormal romance/horror/vampire novel which shows how the slightest tweak in history, with a twist of terror, could make all the difference in its outcome…
We're in Tudor England during the reign of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn. As her time in power nears an end, Anne is greatly disheartened by the false accusations of adultery, high treason and incest she is arrested for, and the cold heartedness of her father for his lack of defense in her honor. Upon her death, she vows revenge on those who have wronged her, and the simple change of her death sentence from beheading to hanging grants her the opportunity to execute her wish on those who betrayed her.

Unknown forces of inconceivable dark magic abounds. Anne arises from her grave and resurrects two others from their untimely, wrongful deaths: her brother George and her favorite court musician and dear friend. This unlikely trio will drive Whitehall Palace to madness, bringing those closest to Anne to their knees, begging for mercy and forgiveness. Once Anne executes her justice among those who failed her, the last and final question will be whether Anne will finally have peace, or find comfort in haunting England forever.

"BOLEYN-Tudor Vampire" by Ms. Cinsearae S., was released this spring, and is available through Amazon.com and other online booksellers.

If you liked Gossip Girl, Carrie and the Twilight series,
You'll love the edge-of-your-seat chills and thrills of...
THE HAUNTING OF MOLLY HARTLEY
The High School Horror for the Gossip Girl generation Starring Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) &
AnnaLynne McCord (90210)

DVD UK Release
Monday 14th June 2010

Icon Home Entertainment is pleased to announce the DVD premiere of the high school horror “The Haunting of Molly Hartley” starring Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Haley Bennett (Music and Lyrics), AnnaLynne McCord (90210), Shannon Woodward (The Riches) and Jake Weber (Dawn of the Dead). This spellbinding teen horror thriller will be released on DVD on Monday 14th June.

Described as “Carrie for the Gossip Girl generation,” the story unfolds with non-stop suspense, where ominous evil lurks just beneath the lush surfaces of a teenage girl's private high school world - and it holds the rights to her very soul.

Now, on the eve of her 18th birthday, Molly Hartley is about to discover the truth of just who, or rather what, it is she is destined to become.

Molly (Haley Bennett) is a 17 year old girl who’s physically recovered from a stab wound inflicted by her tormented mother (Marin Hinkle). The psychological scars that remain run deeper than she realises.

To help her start a new life after the trauma, her father (Jake Weber) enrols her in a new private high school. With her eighteenth birthday fast approaching, Molly is haunted by nightmares of her mother's attack upon her while dealing with the stress of being the new girl in school.

Molly experiences great difficulty fitting in, battling headaches, nosebleeds, and being haunted by mysterious voices. Symptoms of psychosis that affect her seem to foreshadow an onset of the mental illness that took control of her mother's life, but of several different explanations for her distress, the most unforeseen and terrifying is revealed as the truth.
With her father quick to offer her medication to calm her down, Molly is more concerned with her psychotic mother, who is locked away inside a local mental hospital and haunts the frightened teenager’s every move.

DVD bonus features include Cast & Crew interviews and the Theatrical Trailer.

The Plot In Depth:

After surviving a vicious stabbing at the hands of her psychotic mother (who eventually is committed to a mental institution), Molly and her father, move to a new city to make a fresh start. When she is enrolled in a posh private high school, Molly meets ‘Leah’ (Shannon Woodward), a rebellious teen with an anger management problem; ‘Suzie’ (AnnaLynne McCord – the new “Beverly Hills 90210” TV series), who's jealous and spiteful; and ‘Alexis’ (Shanna Collins); a born-again Christian. Molly also meets Joseph Young (Gossip Girl’s heartthrob Chace Crawford), who just happens to be Suzie's ex as well as the one of the richest, most popular boys on campus.

Just when everything is starting to fall into place, Molly’s life is confronted with a series of relentless, horrifying consequences as she learns the shocking revelation leading up to her 18th birthday. Ultimately, Molly discovers that her mother, and others who share her mother's concerns, want her killed in order to save her from a preordained life as a servant of the Devil.

Helmed by first-time director, Mickey Liddell, this gripping and nail-biting thriller stands apart as a truly chilling tale that combines edge-of-your-seat suspense with a compelling mystery steeped in the supernatural. If you’re a fan of horror films including Twilightand Carrieand watch popular television series like Supernaturaland Gossip Girl, then The Haunting of Molly Hartley will be right up your street.

PETA Sets Sights on Amityville House 06-01-10 10:18am, Absinthe
general.gifTHE animal rights group PETA has set its sights on leasing the notorious Amityville murder house on Long Island, which it plans to turn into an exhibit to scare people off meat and dairy products.
In a statement released on Friday, PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) said it wanted to convert the house into a temporary 'slaughterhouse of horrors' the NY Daily News reported.

A letter has been sent by the group to the current owner of the Long Island, New York home making the request and suggesting it may even attract more potential buyers to the Dutch Colonial which is on the market for US $1.5 million ($1.77 million).

Rather than the usual ghosts and malevolent spirits associated with the house, the group said it wanted to depict "the horrors" experienced by animals who are raised and killed for meat, milk, and eggs, and must endure on factory farms and in slaughterhouses, such as intensive confinement, filthy conditions, mutilations and neglect.

.End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.
"The supernatural haunting that some people believe occurred in this building is legendary, but many people don't realize that if they are eating meat, eggs, and dairy products, they are getting their food from real-life horror houses - factory farms and slaughterhouses," stated the letter.

"In our horror house, the sound of slaughterhouse blades whirring while animals scream for their lives would play over loudspeakers. Visitors would be able to see animatronic hens struggling for space inside tiny battery cages and lifelike "fish" gasping for air as they slowly suffocate on the deck of a fishing boat."

Visitors would be able to touch actual instruments used in the food industry, including branding irons that inflict third-degree burns on cows and electrified prods that are used to force animals to walk to their deaths at slaughterhouses.

They would also have the opportunity to be "locked" in a tiny metal-and-concrete gestation pig crate, and kids would receive a doll that resembles a crazed, knife-wielding Ronald McDonald as well as information on PETA's McCruelty campaign. The on-site Cruelty-Free Cafe would feature delicious vegan food, such as protein-packed mock chicken and faux ribs.

The house has been the subject of countless books and films after Ronald DeFeo, Jr. shot and killed six members of his family in 1974, most recently in a 2005 movie starring Melissa George and Ryan Reynolds.

PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said the group hoped the fame of the notorious house would help publicise the groups fight against animal cruelty.

"While some question the authenticity of The Amityville Horror, factory farms and slaughterhouses are all-too-real houses of horror," she said.

"Witnessing the cruelty that is inflicted on farmed animals could haunt visitors for life, so we'll also make sure that they know how to help stop these abuses by simply choosing humane and healthy vegan foods."

As reported at The Daily Telegraph.

Romero Talks About His Latest Zombie Fest 06-01-10 10:13am, Absinthe
hollywood.gifThe horror auteur talks about his latest zombie-fest, 'Survival of the Dead,' and how the series has managed to stay alive so long.

Anne Cusack / Los Angeles Times With "Survival of the Dead," horror auteur George A. Romero, 70, resurrects the series that began more than 40 years ago with the game-changing zombie film "Night of the Living Dead." The Toronto-based writer/director passed through Los Angeles promoting his sixth "… of the Dead" movie, now in theaters.

What inspired you to make No. 6?

I think of it as four and two. The first four were on their own track. Even though they were made 10 years apart from each other or more, it's meant to be the same storyline. "Night of the Living Dead," then "Dawn of the Dead" is a few weeks later, "Day of the Dead" months later and "Land of the Dead" is three years later. Each one spoke about a different decade and was stylistically different.

After "Land," I wanted to do something about emerging media and citizen journalism, so I got this idea for "Diary of the Dead." I thought it would be a one-off. But because it was so inexpensive to make — it may have gotten close to 3 [million dollars] by the time we were finished — it wound up making a lot of money. It's still earning. It's the gift that keeps on giving.

The dead that will not die.

Yeah. I've been really lucky. My stuff does particularly well on video. Horror fans have this collector mentality. I don't know how many versions of "Dawn of the Dead" are out there. "New footage!" I didn't shoot any new footage, but people buy it anyway.

How do you keep zombies fresh?

With CG, I can do more and be sillier. In "Diary," there's a scene where they hit a guy with acid and the camera is never off him, and you see it gradually eat through his skull and get all the way through his brain. That's fun too. There are a couple of real Looney Tunes and Coyote/Roadrunner moments in this film that I could never have done without CG. I guess I'm a kid in a candy store.

I've been able to stick with this genre I've loved since I was a kid. I grew up on DC comic books and "Tales From the Crypt," which were all loaded with humor, bad jokes and puns. I can have that kind of fun and make these comic book movies, but at the same time talk about things I want to talk about — whether it's consumerism or the Bush administration or war.

I was wondering what you were getting at with "Survival of the Dead." I definitely saw social media. It also seemed like Hatfields versus McCoys to me.

Retro Horror Anthology EEEK! from Asylum Press 05-26-10 1:43pm, Absinthe
wib.gifAsylum Press releases the first preview to a new horror anthology entitled EEEK! From Australian creator Jason Paulos.

(Los Angeles) Asylum Press announces the release of an all-new horror anthology entitled EEEK! by creator Jason Paulos. Shipping in Sept. 2010 it’s just in time to shake your bones for the Halloween season.

EEEK! is a homage from artist/writer Jason Paulos to the classic horror comics of his youth. Taking a pinch of black humour from EC comics and mixing it with the art stylings of House of Mystery and Warren comics, Paulos blends a heady broth that hits you like a burning incense stick to the retina.

'EEEK!' is my love letter to cheesy 'retro' horror comics” say creator Jason Paulos,”... in particular Charlton, House of Mystery, Warren, and to a lesser extent 80's stuff like Death Rattle and Twisted Tales. If you made a movie of 'EEEK!' it would be described as the bastard child of Evil Dead and Austin Powers. One of the story titles is 'Death Wears Hotpants', so you can draw your own conclusions from that.”

“We’re very excited to have EEEK! Join the ranks of the horror titles we have brewing at Asylum Press,” explains publisher Frank Forte, “ Jason Paulos has a knack for bringing bringing back those morbid feelings I got when I read the old Eerie and Creepys, but he does it with a new twist.”

EEEK! VOL. 1 will be a soft cover TPB annual anthology. Standard comic book dimensions. 152 pgs, B&W with COLOR section , perfect bound. Retail Price: $14.95. Ship Date: Sept 2010. Intended Audience: General Readers. ISBN13: 978-1-61724-010-2

Writers:Jason Paulos, Bodine Amerikah, Daren White
Artist: Jason Paulos

Cover Artist: Aly Fell
Back Cover Artists: Jason Paulos and Daniel Cox

This retro-style comic book anthology of all-new horror tales is guaranteed to give you the eeries and the creepies! Taking a pinch of black humour from EC comics and mixing it with the art stylings of House of Mystery and Warren comics, EEEK! blends a heady broth that hits you like a burning incense stick to the retina. Jason Paulos delivers the goods with over 15 tales of revenge, zombies, vampires, ghouls and monsters. Each tale drawn in a different style reminiscent of the B&W horror mags of the 70's and 80's. In 'Deadline of Death' we witness rival comic artists dabbling with malevolent forces that arrive in the form of a chain smoking goatee wearing Satan. In Lights! Camera! Murder!, A lovesick starlet and a ruthless film director embark on a doomed love affair that ends in pieces! In "Easy Prey" A helpless girl, lost in the wilderness ... but is she all that she seems? In "Head Trip" a hippie's love for music goes horribly wrong. Other titles include "Confessions of a Thrill Killer", "Like Son, Like Father" , "In Too Deep" and many more. Includes full color section, cover gallery and sketchbook section.

DEVIL'S REJECTS 2 - Maybe? 05-26-10 8:49am, Absinthe
hollywood.gifRob Zombie has been off on his Gruesome Twosome tour which he took as a break from making films. Now that the tour is over it looks like he is trying to decide what to do next. In order to do that Rob Zombie posted a poll on his blog asking fans what film they would like to see next.

Among the choices are The Blob remake, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Werewolf Women of the S.S. and The Devils Rejects Part 2. Now the first three are all things we now he has been tossing around.. but Devils Rejects 2? Really? It is definitely the most intriguing of the bunch considering the amazing ending of the first film. What else can he do with the Firefly clan?

Of course this could all just be Rob tossing up the poll to see what people would say. But he may actually have an idea rolling around in his head for the Firefly's. Hopefully soon Rob will comment on the poll and the possiblity of a sequel to The Devils Rejects.
