Exclusive TV Spot for LET ME IN 09-08-10 10:37pm, Absinthe
hollywood.gif
ShockTillYouDrop.com has an exclusive first look at the new TV spot for Let Me In, written and directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield). Starring Kodi Smit-McPhee, Chloe Moretz, Richard Jenkins, Elias Koteas, Cara Buono and Sasha Barrese, the adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's "Let the Right One In opens in theaters on October 1st.

Let Me In tells a terrifying tale about an alienated 12-year old boy named Owen (Smit-McPhee) who is viciously bullied by his classmates and neglected by his divorcing parents. Achingly lonely, Owen spends his days plotting revenge on his middle school tormentors and his evenings spying on the other inhabitants of his apartment complex. His only friend is his new neighbor Abby (Moretz), an eerily self-possessed young girl who lives next door with her silent father (Jenkins). A frail, troubled child about Owen's age, Abby emerges from her heavily curtained apartment only at night and always barefoot, seemingly immune to the bitter winter elements. Recognizing a fellow outcast, Owen opens up to her and before long, the two have formed a unique bond.

Bruce Campbell Wants to Make EXPENDABLES Horror Movie 09-08-10 10:29pm, Absinthe
hollywood.gifDespite less-than-stellar reviews and a fairly minimal budget, The Expendables has been wildly successful since its theatrical release last month. The concept of riffing on the action movie genre by casting every action hero in existence from the 1980s and 90s—save the ones who refused to join—clearly struck a much-neglected chord with people.

Apparently, it struck a chord with cult film legend Bruce Campbell (Burn Notice) as well. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times about, amongst other things, Evil Dead and Campbell’s longstanding history with the horror movie genre, Bruce let slip that he’s in the process of putting together a horror movie in the vein of The Expendables:

“Yeah, The Expendables, or more like the It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World of horror. I want to get so many horror movie stars that people can’t possibly not see the movie. I want to give them other stuff to do. I want to have Kane Hodder be very particular about what he eats. I want Robert Englund to be a tough guy, like he knows tae kwon do or something. I want to find out the hidden sides of all these people. Some will play themselves, some will play alternate characters as well. I may approach Kane Hodder to play Frankenstein. He could be Kane Hodder himself fighting himself as Frankenstein. It could be crazy. It’s a silly concocted story that we hope to do maybe in a year or so. My breaks between Burn Notice have been getting tighter because they’ve been adding episodes. They’re trying to trap me like a rat in the TV world, and I might just let them. There’s a script, it just kind of blows right now, so no one’s really seeing it. We gotta work on it. Definitely shoot in Oregon all on a stage. It’s like the 300 of horror comedies. We want to make it a whole world. Someone’s gotta take Frank down for good.”

Zombies vs Unicorns: Anthology Book Trailer 09-08-10 10:19pm, Absinthe
wib.gifOverview: It is a question that has long been debated (well, since 2007): Which is better, the zombie or the unicorn? Finally, this argument will be decided. Zombies are lovers and fierce warriors, hunters of the living and just plain cool. Unicorns are sparkly, pastel, and fart rainbows. But they're also arbiters of justice, healers and vicious man-killers. Ultimately, the decision rests with you—which side are you on?

Head on over to HorrorMovies.ca to watch the trailer!

I have to admit, these book trailers are pretty cool!

directors M. Falcore and Rodrigo Gudiño
Directed by The Birthday Massacre's own M. Falcore and Rodrigo Gudiño, the founder of Rue Morgue. By not only exploring the lyrical subject matter, but also paying homage to classic horror films, the video is a creatively beautiful adaptation of the song

In an interview with Sean Plummer, Falcore is quoted as saying:
"The song "In the Dark" is about relationships and feeling isolated around somebody that you're supposed to be close to. So the images sort of came out of that"

"I liked the concept of the video", says Rodrigo "Mike talked very much in terms of horror film homage in terms of different scenes were Legend, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser."

Chibi said of the project "all of what the band has always sort of done I feel is encapsulated in the premise of the video of this song" click here to read more!

Lovecraft Film Details Leak 08-30-10 4:29pm, Absinthe
hollywood.gifTempleofGhoul's Dejan Ognjanovic got his hands on a copy of Guillermo del Toro's script At the Mountains of Madness, an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's novella of the same name. Based on his first impressions, the film is feels like "a Hellboy movie without Hellboy, with a light dose of Carpenter's The Thing. "

He basically sums up the entire plot in a few words saying that "It is a period piece: the frame story takes place in 1939, at the very beginning of World War II, but the bulk of the film is made up of a flashback narration by the last survivor of the previous expedition to the South Pole from 1930. In this version, it is somewhat simplified into: Scientists go to Antarctica, resurrect primaeval monsters, mayhem ensues."

Let's also not forget that before James Cameron begins his work on Avatar 2, he'll be producing this film, and he seems to be pretty excited about it. Here's what he recently had to say to Wired about it:

"It's going to be an epically scaled horror film, and we haven't seen anything like that in a really long time -- I guess since Aliens." He went on to say that "The thing about Lovecraft is he left a lot to the imagination. He never told you what they looked like. He managed to create a sense of creeping horror without specifics."

GHOSTBUSTERS 3 Update 08-30-10 4:13pm, Absinthe
hollywood.gifIt's no secret that Columbia Pictures' Ghostbusters 3 - being penned by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky - will introduce a new team of young Ghost Busters that will have proton packs, PKE meters and the famed Ecto-1 passed on to them by Egon, Peter, Ray, and Winton (Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson, respectively). Early reports indicate that the quartet have signed on, and are in fact ready to pass the torch to some young uns. Bloody disgusting got this exciting
EXCLUSIVE

Much like Steven Spielberg did with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (where Mutt Williams is Indy and Marion's love-child), Ivan Reitman is looking to kick-start a new franchise with a ghost bustin' love-child of their own.

Early word from an insider is that the (hinted at) love affair between Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) and Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver) has a much bigger impact on the franchise than just an angry Vigo (Wilhelm von Homburg).

From what we're told, it will be revealed that Dana's son Oscar is in fact Peter's child as well. Furthermore, Oscar is now 21-ish and ready to take the reigns of his father's ghost busting business!

It's an important plot point as it gives a lot of weight to the actual story, and takes it from being "just another sequel" to having a real purpose (so long as they don't pull an Indiana Jones IV).

In addition to the four Ghost Busters, Rick Moranis (who will be coming out of retirement for this) and Sigourney Weaver are expected to return as well. Still no word on how close the film is to actually going into production, but word has it things are actually progressing nicely (contrary to what Murray is saying).

Louisiana Ideal Location for LAST EXORCISM 08-27-10 6:07pm, Absinthe
hollywood.gif Actress Ashley Bell remembers the exact moment she realized that producers had found the perfect setting for the low-budget, high-intensity creepout "The Last Exorcism" (read review) -- the moment she arrived at the rural St. Bernard Parish farmhouse where the bulk of the movie was shot.

"When we first pulled up, there was a rusted machete in the fence, and I just turned to everyone and was like, 'We're home!'" Bell said with a laugh.

For a West Coast girl on her first visit to bayou country, it was a stark reminder that she wasn't in California anymore.

That would be a good thing, she said.

"If it had been done on location in L.A. or in a studio, I don't think it would have had the same quality or the same creepiness, " she said.

By time the 24-day shoot was completed, "The Last Exorcism" -- an Eli Roth-produced, "Blair Witch"-style faux documentary that has been generating buzz since premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January -- would, indeed, boast an abundance of creepiness. Today, horror fans will get a chance to see for themselves as the film opens in theaters nationwide.

It tells the story of a Baton Rouge minister named Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) who has decided to reveal to the world how his particular brand of charlatanism works. So he invites a documentary crew along on his latest exorcism, down in bayou country south of New Orleans.

It's there he meets Bell's character, a sweet, blushing 15-year-old girl named Nell whose fundamentalist father insists she's possessed by a demon. It doesn't take long for the good reverend to realize he's gotten much, much more than he bargained for.

Audiences will probably be struck most by Bell's performance as Nell, a swing-for-the-fences role that has the former ballet dancer contorting her body into unnatural positions and inhabiting what feels like two distinct characters. But every bit as crucial, filmmakers say, is the setting.

This isn't some slasher movie that depends on gore and buckets of blood. (There are dashes of both, but not so much to keep the film from getting a PG-13 rating.) Rather, for its chills, "Last Exorcism" relies on mood, suspense and a disturbing sense of place. That's where Louisiana comes in.

Like most films that set up shop here to take advantage of the state-provided filmmaking tax incentives, "The Last Exorcism" originally was set elsewhere. Then producers visited New Orleans.

"They said, 'It's got to be Louisiana, '" German-born director Daniel Stamm said. "'It's exactly the vibe we need for the whole thing.' I had never been to New Orleans or to Louisiana, so I just kind of took it at face value. ... And then when I went down there to location scout, I understood that you would lose so much if you had shot it anywhere else."

It wasn't the local clichés that most interested Stamm. Aside from a highway sign near the I-10/I-610 split, there aren't many shots in his movie that will be immediately recognizable to locals. What he wanted was the general texture of the region, with its nighttime eeriness, sense of history and spiritual complexity.

"To me it was like time travel, " Stamm said. "You went down there, and you had the feeling you were suddenly 100 years in the past. It has a really, really rich atmosphere.

"The plantation that we shot at was a plantation that had been flooded by Katrina. .... You could still see the water line on the wall, 6 feet high, and it had been deserted since then. It had the smell, and it had the heat, because we didn't have air conditioning in there, and it had insects and it had the creaking floorboards."

Another thing it had: critters. The crew discovered that one morning after showing up for a scene at a meadow near the house, only to find a six-foot alligator sunning itself there. An alligator wrangler relocated the gator, but not before Stamm got a shot of it and inserted it into the movie as a mood-setter.

Ashley Bell in 'The Last Exorcism.'
"Something down there doesn't change, and thank God it doesn't, " Stamm said. "Wherever you point the camera, you have something beautiful and rich and atmospheric. It's production-designed for you when you arrive."

Given that much of the film was shot at night amid all that atmosphere, Fabian said it wasn't at all hard to look freaked out for the film's final climax.

"All the bugs and everything come out to life at that point, and it was creepy, " the actor said. "We're running around with those cameras, and as you see (in the movie) it's only the natural light coming from the camera and/or lamps, so you're constantly in a state of mood, you're constantly in a state of spookiness and shadow.

"And as the evening wears on ... we're running around chasing the girl in the bloody dress and we're scared out of our wits. There's really not a whole lot of acting."

That, he said, is something you just can't get on a studio backlot -- or anywhere else, for that matter.

"If we would have shot this in Burbank, " Fabian said, "totally different film."

Ghost Hunters Investigated London Dungeon on Friday 13th 08-24-10 7:41pm, Absinthe
general.gifThis past Friday the 13th, the London Paranormal Society, whom some regard as the UK’s premier public ghost-busters, investigated the London Dungeon haunted attraction

The group, led by medium Ian Shillito, spent six hours in the reportedly-haunted location looking for some of its supernatural inhabitants. According to Shillito, “Beyond the mutilated exhibits, torture equipment and dark corridors, we find multiple reports of ghostly children, silent figure’s appearing in the mortuary or gliding around the Great Fire exhibit. General poltergeist activity is encountered when doors rattle, open and close whilst knocks and raps are heard, especially in the Jack the Ripper area. Previous investigations have uncovered much auditory phenomena, and many of the investigators were spooked in the world’s largest mirror maze as strange mists, dragging footsteps and clanking of chains have been experienced. Sightings are regularly witnessed fueling the stories further."

In 1212, a hospital dedicated to Thomas Becket stood on the site of the dungeons. The Hospital of St. Thomas the Martyr was run by Augustinian monks and nuns who provided treatment for the poor, sick and homeless. By the 17th century the area had become a popular place for alternative entertainment such as dog, bear and cock fighting, and local taverns. Tooley Street (originally called St. Olaves Street) gained a reputation for being an infamous red light district. In 1838, London Bridge station was built therefore creating a series of arches. During the WWII, the arches were used as air raid shelters by many of the residents of the nearby tenements. On February 17 1941, the arches received a direct hit by a bombing raid killing 68 local people who were spending the night It is believed that many of the bodies were never recovered and still remain entombed to this very day.

No word yet on the results of the investigation, but the GHOSTour to England will continue to visit the London Dungeon when its "Tour of Terror" returns to London again in 2012.
